Determination of Caffeine in Soft Drinks
Measuring caffeine in soft drinks, particularly in energy drinks, is essential to ensure safety, compliance, and product quality control. High doses of caffeine, typical of these beverages, can have significant physiological effects.
CDR DrinkLab enables precise quantification of caffeine content, supporting both accurate product labeling and compliance with current regulations.
Method
Sample treatment
Degas using the ultrasonic bath (code 222062) before taking the sample.
Principle of the test
Caffeine is extracted from the beverage through an appropriate solvent. After centrifugation, the extract is measured spectrophotometrically and the absorbance of the sample is correlated to the concentration of caffeine.
Calibration curve
The calibration curve of the CDR DrinkLab system, carried out using HPLC as a reference method, confirmed excellent linearity of the system throughout the measurement range.
