The analysis of bicarbonates allows, in a simple and fast way, to quantify the concentration of the analyte in the water used in the brewing process.

Test type: End Point.Time testing: [uni].Analysis sessions with multiple samples are possible up to a maximum of 16 tests for CDR BeerLab® and 3 tests for CDR BeerLab® Junior.

Method

Place the test tubes containing reagent R1 in one of the incubation cells and let them warm for at least 10 minutes.

Select the cuvette to be read from the display. Place the cuvette in the cell marked with the blue light and press READ.

Collect 50 µL of sample with a pipette. Use a new tip for each test to prevent contamination from previous samples.

Carefully clean the outside of the pipette tip with blotting paper, avoiding contact between the extremity of the tip and the paper.

Place the sample in the cuvette. Keeping the tip immersed in reagent, press and release the piston of the pipette several times.

Place the cuvette in one of the incubation cells and start the timer by pressing  the timer icon.

Insert test tube in the reading cell marked with the blue light.

Sample treatment

The bicarbonate ion reacts with an enzymatic complex that leads to the oxidation of NADH. The decrease in absorbance measured at 366 nm is proportional to the amount of the analyte present in the water sample.

Principle of the test

The calibration curve was constructed using standard bicarbonate solutions. The trend of the curve confirmed an excellent linearity of the system over the whole measuring range.
