CDR CoffeLab analyzer for controlling fermentation processes, for defining the chemical profile of green beans, roasted coffee and the drink.

Determination of chloride in water

The analysis of chloride allows, in a simple and fast way, to quantify the concentration of the analyte in the water used in the coffee brewing process.

Method

Test type: End Point.
Time testing: 1 minute.
Analysis sessions with multiple samples are possible up to a maximum of 16 for CDR CoffeeLab®.

Sample treatment

Use water as is.

Test Principle

The chloride ions react with the mercuric thiocyanate and release thiocyanate ions. The thiocyanate ions react with Fe (III) giving an orange complex whose intensity, measured at 520 nm, is directly proportional to the concentration of chlorides in the sample.

Calibration curve

The calibration curve was constructed using standard chlorides solutions. The trend of the curve confirmed an excellent linearity of the system over the whole measuring range.
