Validation of the Ammonia Test for Milk

The chemical analysis of the milk and dairy products for quality control for every stage of the production chain with CDR FoodLabmilk testing: Validation of FoodLab in checking the amount of ammonia in whole and skimmed milkIn collaboration with Parmalat S.p.A. CDR conducted a comparative study between the specific electrode and CDR FoodLab® methods in determining the amount of ammonia in whole and skimmed milk.

The purpose of the study was to assess the capability of CDR FoodLab® to detect the amount of ammonia in milk. The specific Orion electrode was used as reference method.

CDR FoodLab® is the preceding version of CDR FoodLab® .

The study demonstrated a good correspondence between the two methods and that, unlike the electrode method that requires more time, more manual operations, glassware and reagents in addition to a particular attention during the measurement phase, the CDR’s system is able to produce the required result in 8 minutes, information on the concentration of ammonia in the milk samples and does not require a pre-processing of the sample or the use of glassware.

Researchers concluded that CDR FoodLab®enables to perform extemporary measurements in a short time (8 minutes), thus allowing operators to determine the acceptability of a batch in real time, with a very limited number of manual operations and using unprocessed samples of milk“.

Analytical kit

CDR FoodLab® Analysis Systems use disposable pre-vialed reagents specifically developed by the research laboratories of CDR. The use of pre-vialed reagents and the analytical procedures allow:

  • a sample preparation that is quick and easy, when needed at all;
  • making analytical procedures extremely fast and easy;
  • removing all needs for complex calibration procedures.

Reagents come in aluminum packages containing 10 test tubes each to perform 10 tests (or packages for 100 tests containing 10 single packages of 10 test tubes each).
